Half-term, Halloween, Bonfire Night – October & November bring with them tonnes of exciting dates marked up in your calendar. I love the autumnal season and basically any excuse to cosy up in a knitted jumper and see the seasons changing! As though they read my mind, Foxes Farm Produce invited me along to their Essex pumpkin patch for some pumpkin-picking and corn-maze exploring. Armed with my camera, wellies and a wheelbarrow… Here’s what I LOVED about this awesome pumpkin patch in Colchester, Essex!
As soon as October hits, I am so ready for all the autumnal feels to flood in. Cosy, knitted jumpers paired with walks in my wellies, a bright sky & a chill in the air make up the perfect autumnal day for me.
Meeting the team behind Foxes Farm Produce, I headed to one of their pumpkin patches in Essex for what I can only describe as the most autumnal day you could imagine…
Emily and Guy French started out their fresh produce business with a veg patch whilst at uni. Selling any excess harvest to local shops, their hankering for home-grown produce grew.
The husband and wife duo have absolutely flourished their business to the incredible plots they manage today – Luckily for us visitors to the patch as it’s a really fab place! You can learn more about Emily & Guy here.
The overwhelming moment you see a field entiiiiiirely covered in pumpkins…
That was certainly a “WOW” moment.
The pumpkins are, of course, available to buy and there’s a vast array of types, colours and shapes to discover.
See if you can spot which one is known as a ‘Turk’s turban’…
Emily was SO lovely and super knowledgeable; guiding us that although every pumpkin is edible, squashes make for the most palatable and delicious eats!
Hearing that they were all edible really got me thinking about pumpkin & squash recipes… Tempting to write a similar post like this one I shared with how I put my Perrywoods tomato plant to good use!
Grabbing a wheelbarrow to fill, the lovely Essex blogger gang and I explored the pumpkin-filled fields for our hand-selected ‘chosen ones’!
It’ll come as no surprise to you that I fell for a perfect grey one…
The Colchester pumpkin patch run by Foxes Farm Produce is tucked away down a few country lanes in Aldham.
It’s currently free to visit – You only pay a small amount to park and whatever you decide to spend on pumpkins & snacks from the food vans whilst you’re there.
After deliberating over whether to add any more gourds, squashes or pumpkins to my collection, we all headed to the corn maze!
Just one of the cool things to explore at the Colchester patch, the corn maze is quite literally a ginormous field that Emily & Guy plotted a maze in (with some dead-ends!) and then carefully chopped out of the crop. We explored, testing out my hack of “always go left”… With some success – We live to tell the tale!
If you haven’t ever been to a giant maze like this, I highly recommend! I’m surprised I didn’t think to feature a corn maze on my summer bucketlist.
Whilst my visit was to the Colchester patch, founders Emily & Guy also run a Foxes Farm Produce patch in Basildon as well as a private field you can hire to walk anxious dogs (another amazing idea!).
Aside from pumpkins, they also produce Christmas trees and hold a Farm Mud Run which definitely sounds like something I can get down with!
Truly a fab place to visit with kids, friends & fellow autumn-lovers, now is such a great time to visit a Foxes Farm Produce pumpkin patch!
